Sports blogs and rants:
These are rants mostly about MLB, NFL, NHL, college football but no football crap until August. We don't hear about baseball during December, so I damn well won't follow football until September.
3/7/2008: "Sportswise"
the Jackets are 6 points out of the eighth and final spot for
playoffs. They’ve been playing modest for the last week but probably
need to do 10-2-2 to get into the playoffs. Very tough. They shed
some ego’s in the arena so they CAN possibly do it. After all, it’s
been the best year in Jackets history.
The Reds are at .500 in Spring Training in Florida. No standouts as of yet. Close wins and close losses.
1/17/2008: "Misc. Sports Update"Sports wise, the Jackets are improving, won a few in a row. Rich
Rodriguez is a sad excuse for human. Woman's Basketball should be
destroyed.1/11/2008: "College Football Playoff?"I'm not reading about this too much because
after Monday's shitball game, I am sick of college football until late
August when OSU will play the ever soft Youngstown State again. Boy, we
will get the easy path next year again and get criticized for a soft
schedule. Look for Northwestern - like someone in the Mailbox section
of The Columbus Dispatch sports said last Sunday, should be in the MAC -
and, gasp, Troy University. Despite Georgia playing them and they gave
Georgia a fit, they still suck. Looking forward to USC which will
weather us. If we lose, we suck. If we win, we could have teeny
respect. Back to the playoff, I'll have more about this as time goes
on. Avoiding CF for now. I'm for it, if it brings the bowl games back
to January 1-2, where they belong. NOT six days after we return to work
from the holiday. Also, if it returns meaning to the Rose, Sugar,
Orange, and Fiesta bowls. Cotton and Gator could be thrown into the mix
too.
1/11/2008: "Bronson Arroyo"
Supposedly a review on a website of his concerts as a
singer of a band, he wants to go to the rich pricks Boston Red Sox. "I
want to be out of Cincinnati and back in the olde towne". Not quoted
100% but along that. Why don't you go then? You're inconsistent. The
Red Sox can take you because they need to be knocked off the ledge a
little. When he's good, he's great - he has that Randy Johnson type
stance before pitches - but when he is slumping, he is horrible! He had
an ERA of 2.64 before sliding big time to bubble well over 5.00.
Bronson approved but it was too late to get anything better than 4.00.
Many games were lost. He can take his inconsistency elsewhere.
Seriously, don't say crap like that at concerts. Shit spreads and ends
up in Bob Hunter's column in the Columbus Dispatch. God bless Hunter
for getting tidbits like this that expose stuff rather than the typical
AP article that might not do anything about this. Maybe Arroyo was
joking but it labels him as an ass and traitor. Maybe I'm harsh on that
last word of the last sentence but if you want big money and fame, go to
fucking Boston and raise your ego. However if you want fun and
traditional old baseball in a great but not overpoweringly town, stay in
Cincinnati.
1/08/2008: "THE game review"
Well, the game was disappointing. This time the 51 day layoff didn't
get us rusty but we just played unprofessionally. Yet another team from
the SEC (sick of them yet?) from the redneck south where football is
everything and from the state that had the balls to give us the Spears
family. But it's unfair really, USC played in their backyard (Rose
Bowl), and LSU played this game closer to their home than we are to
Portsmouth or Mansfield. Half of the bowl games should be cut out, a
lot of teams barely over .500 played this year, 64 of our 120 Division 1
teams played. A bunch of who cares games and nearly every fucking bowl
game is in the south creating a unfair advantage to the north teams.
All my teams or teams I rooted for lost. Hawaii lost to Georgia. My
Clemson lost to Auburn, poor coaching I'm sure. Air Force blew the game
against hated liberal-punk ass Cal. Maybe I'm glad I don't have cable
or satellite, all my teams are losers and teams I hate or don't give a
shit for, win.
12/27/2007: "Blue Jackets and NHL scheduling"
The Bluejackets won last night against Atlanta and is a great idea why the schedule should be opened up and we can play east coast teams. We're sick of playing Nashville (dislike them), Detroit (hate them), Anaheim (fucking hate them), LA, Vancouver, and Calgary day in, day out. We never see teams on our own side of the country. Love to see New York, Jersey, Pittsburgh, Florida, Carolina (who doesn't deserve a team, those Nascar loving rednecks), Toronto, Montreal, etc. I notice how boring of a schedule we have. Next year we play all 30 teams supposedly, hopefully it cuts down on Detroit (eat shit) and Nashville (stay in ice-storm country), etc.
11/02/2007: "Asshole MLB"
Now, the long awaited rip on Major League Baseball (THE Mlb)…
As you saw lately, Boston whupped the Colorado Rockies in 4 straight games to win the World Series. Boston may have been a good team (fuckin A, if you had all the money like they and their scummy archrival buddy, the Yankees, you can get ANYone) but Colorado was screwed. MLB probably didn't want them to win the series is my wild guess. They're a small time team that doesn't generate $$$ or TV interest. God forbid the game will be about the game and not about fucking money and TV, the two most people-corrupting things on the planet. The games were buried amist NFL and other sports because the games get later every year. The fucking lazy ass overpaid ballplayers of today need several days off to take a 6 hour flight across ze land. The Rockies swept the Arizona 's to gain the world series spot early. How were they rewarded? Eight friggin days off. In sports, time off makes you rusty and is not good. Ohio State has almost two months off before the BCS title game because the fucking greedy exec's of college football wanted to put the title game in the second week of January. In the good days, a January 2 bowl game was late. The Buckyes got killed because Florida had two-three weeks less rest. The Rockies got killed too for being rusty.
Another thing, why the late friggin start? In Denver , I might understand, them being in Mountain Time (my favorite time zone by the way) but a 8:40 start in Boston ? You're running baseball into the ground with the very young and the old who can't be up to 12:45, when one game in Boston ended. How about one or a couple games in the afternoon? There's nothing nicer than a fall afternoon and fall evenings can be disgustingly cold in the north USA . Oh no, that's not where the money is and the games have to be on cocksucking Fox and pregame and all this stupid crap, this sposored by that, who freakin cares. I came for the game, not to honor assholes or see clips. Save that for when I'm fucking awake. I'm sure Bud Selig is behind this. A big fuck you to the guy who I think wants four divisions. You want to be like the ever-so-fucked-up NFL?
I love listening to the Reds on radio during the year but these big games on TV, with the overly done graphics, videos, and over advertised everything. You're driving baseball into the ground. I'm proud to listen to radio broadcasts and neglect the TV.
I watched maybe 10 minutes of the series because I knew it was going to be a big money Boston beatdown.
10/10/2007: "Cincy Reds 07"
THE REDS It was a dismal year again, for the seventh time in a row. The Pirates have one 8 years longer but America 's team shouldn't have a 7 year losing streak. It could've been avoided if Jerry Narron was cut earlier. They waited too long to do him in, at 31-51, it was too late. No winning streak could do them out of the 20 game hole unless you're the friggin Yankees who do it each year. They blow until July break, they stream ahead and falter in October (watch them go down at the feet of the Indians later this week). The Reds improved to just 10 games under .500, 60-70, at one point, after a 6-7 game winning streak. In the very weak NL Central, could've been in the hunt for the playoffs being only 6 games back behind first at one point. For the rest of the season though, they played .500 or slightly under ball for September, avoided last place thanks the hopeless Pirates. I feel bad for them, having a GM/owner who didn't give a shit. However the Pirates cleaned the upper part of their house and changed owners. That's why I predict them 2nd place, 85-77 next year maybe grabbing the wild card. Adam Dunn (40 HR's) and Ken Griffey (barely over 30 HR's) went down, tired and achy and a few of their offensive buddies joined them in the last week. Hopeless, lose 7 games in a row before winning the last handedly under the pitching of 21 year old Homer Bailey, who is 3 days younger than Tyler, to finish at 72-90. Jerry Narron's fault? Yes. Not busting the players asses, bad decisions in pulling able-to-do pitching starters in the 6th and 7th. Many of Arroyo's and Harang's starts were wasted. Arroyo had a bad stretch too, maybe it was lack of confidence because of that? He finished way under .500 despite a era of the low 4's that was wrecked by a few bad starts in his bad stretch. Harang, gotta love him, put away the Pirates on 92 pitches before for a complete game.
The Radio Announcers. I REALLY got hooked on the team this year, I always liked Marty and Joe, never got into Joe's first replacement Steve. I didn't listen more than a few times here and there until this year. Joe's 2nd round of replacements, a rotation of 1996 closer's champion, Jeff Brantley (who saved 44 games for us in that year), and Marty's son, Tom. Enjoyed these guys a lot, especially "The Cowboy" Jeff Brantley. Will miss them but Marty will be on here and there and a few spring training games until the opening day, the last day of March, 2008.
2008 Reds' prediction 88-74. Especially true if Joe Girardi is managing and he is still open.
Aaron Harang 20-6 2.70 ERA
Bronson Arroyo 18-8 4.00 ERA
Adam Dunn 52HR's .275BA
Ken Griffey, 48 HR's, .300BA
Brandon Phillips, 35HR's, 35 Steals
Meanwhile for this year, 2007 World Series Prediction:
Indians vs. Rockies
Indians win 4-2
10/08/07: "THE YANKEES" Yankee's choke again on the first round. That's what happens when you have all the big overpaid ego's all on one team. No chemistry = October splat. Note to The Boss, dump all these players and get some good prospects and start on the farm.
9/18/2007:
Tired but ok. Need to exercise but it's too damn hot again. What happened to the 44 degree mornings. It's stank outside again and extremely dry. Looking forward to fall maybe and some friggin rain. Football is entertaining. Michigan sucks, the Bucks are them successful selves, Clemson likewise. The Steelers are doing well, the Bengals mediocre again, and the Browns surprising, could they have it right with this Anderson QB. It's too interesting to focus on one team.
The Reds are cooked for the season, their 7th losing season in a row was locked in last night. Now, we're just trying to avoid losing 90 games. We could be .500 at least if our old manager didn't sink us in May and June.
8/24/2007: "30-3 Baseball Game / NAACP-NBA-Vick / Work"
Work has been great the last three days. I been solidly busy, coworkers are nice, and such.
Two, how about that 30-3 win with the Rangers over Orioles. Who needs football in August when we have a fooball-like score. 30 runs, 29 hits, two grand slams and several home runs. Baseball is great now and the Reds are chugging alot, quality wins and comebacks every night. 3 out of 4 against Atlanta. Hold football off until at least mid September.
Three, what the fuck is the NAACP's problem? Are they racist enough that they will support blacks doing bad stuff. They think Vick should play the NFL this year. Whatever. If it were a white guy killing/touching dogs, they would go apeshit (and their ass-buddy Jesse Jackson) but Vick "should play". Now that's racist. Supporting a dog killer. Don Imus did not kill dogs. He made a joke on a SHITTY (they fucking lost after all) basketball team. I'm not racist but the NAACP and Jesse Jackson are just criminals and/or accessory to criminals.
12/25/2005: "Pittsburgh 41 Cleveland 0"
So I'm good theses two days. Big Ben 13 for 20 225 yards 0 intercepts. Willie Parker 80 yard touchdown.Christmas is good, well, its saved after my favorite person appeared for the first time in 7 days. I did well too giftwise.....hopefully she gets on more and my Clemson (I got a #6 jersey today) wins on December 27.
12/18/2005: "Holy crap." A SD Chargers team comes to a crappy cold snowy Indy to knock off the Colts. I'm a fan of neither (my Steelers are on the brink) but that's just shocking.
Laff, it's snowing again. Mommie, make it stop lol. Some fat guy with the name meteorologist said 16 out of this months 18 days so far have had snow. *Laugh*.
12/05/2005: "Bowl games"
Hmmm....
My Clemson up against Colorado. I naturally like Colorado (it being in the state of CO) but I think my Tigers will win this one. Colorado got beated in the the Big 12 thingy 70-3. whoa.
The Bucks are back in Tempe AZ for the 3rd time in like 5 years. Ohio State against Notre Dame. ND may be hot but so are the Bucks. Should be close but OSU will pick em off. OSU travels well and probably have the damn Phoenix mapped out in their heads for going to the Fiesta Bowl so much.
Penn State Nittany Lions up against a falling Florida State team. Bad match up. 11-1 team against 7-4. Uh huh.
USC against Texas. This year USC is playing some one good and maybe someone better than them. This is a wait and see. (Go Texas)
Go Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Bucks, and Penn State Lions.
10/18/05: "2005 World Series": Commenting on the upcoming World Series. This one should be a great one. Not the same old teams. The Chicago White Sox will be in it for the first time in 46 years to seek their first championship in 88 years (1917). The NL team, Houston is in it for the first time ever? Stay tuned. Cardinals are not giving up just yet in game 5 in the 9th inning. Should be entertaining no matter who wins. No more times when the Yankees play The Braves. Remember that? Every darn year they seen each other. In other news, job is well so far except slow. [The White Sox won the series days later]
